
This brightly colored yellow flower is in the Sunflower Family (Asteraceae), on a small bush. Looking closer, one can see small spines on the branches, a good clue to its identity: Shortspine Horsebrush (
Tetradymia spinosa). Other common names are spiny horsebrush, cat-claw horsebrush, thorny horsebrush, and cottonthorn.
